Win a Hot Air Balloon Ride!
What it’s like to take a balloon flight?
Taking a hot air balloon flight is often described as a magical and serene experience.
Here’s what you can typically expect:
Early Morning Start
- Most balloon flights take place at sunrise when the winds are calmest and the air is cool. You’ll likely arrive before dawn, greeted by the sight of the balloon being prepared for flight.
- Watching the envelope (the balloon) fill with air and then heat from the burner lifting it skyward is a fascinating part of the experience.
Gentle Ascent
- Unlike the abrupt motion of an airplane, the ascent in a balloon is incredibly smooth. There’s no feeling of acceleration — just a gentle lift. There’s no perception of height because of your linear detachment from the ground- this means no vertigo and
- As you rise, there is no sensation of wind movement because you are moving with the gentle currents. The world below opens up with a panoramic view. In a place like Wine Country, rolling vineyards and majestic mountains create an unforgettable landscape.
The Sound and Silence
- The occasional roar of the burner keeps the balloon afloat, but in between, it’s silent. The tranquility allows you to hear distant sounds — birdsong, rustling trees, or even conversations from the ground below.
A New Perspective
- Without the confines of a window, you’ll experience unobstructed views in every direction. The sensation of floating, rather than flying, gives a peaceful sense of freedom.
- Depending on the winds, you may drift over vineyards, forests, lakes, or quaint towns.
Landing and Celebration
- After about an hour, the pilot will guide the balloon to a safe landing spot. While most landings are gentle, sometimes a “tip-over” landing adds a bit of excitement, especially in breezier conditions.
- Many operators, including **Wine Country Balloons**, traditionally celebrate with a champagne toast — a nod to the early days of ballooning.
Lasting Memories
- Photos from the flight often don’t do the experience justice, but the memories will stay with you. It’s a moment of wonder, often likened to “floating on a cloud.”
Whether it’s a romantic outing, a family adventure, or a bucket-list achievement, a hot air balloon ride is a truly unforgettable experience.
How Our Raffles Work
Filling up your bucket list is even more rewarding when it benefits a worthy cause. Imagine the thrill of winning a $500+ hot air balloon flight for two by simply purchasing a $10 raffle ticket — a truly special opportunity made accessible to all.
Each raffle directly supports a participating charity, with 40% of the proceeds going to the organization. The remaining 60% covers the administrative and promotional expenses of Flights Over America, as well as the cost of the balloon flight service.
Once the raffle concludes, a winner will be selected and awarded a Flight Certificate, redeemable at any of our participating hot air balloon companies nationwide. The certificate is valid for one year. Even after expiration, it can be reinstated for an additional six-month period at any time in the future.
Flight Certificates are transferable, meaning they can be gifted to another individual or even donated to a different nonprofit for use in another fundraising event. If the certificate holder decides not to take the flight, they also have the option to exchange it for a $300 donation to any nonprofit organization of their choice.
